Logging in to StarShip

This topic covers how to log in to StarShip Web (the On-Prem version of StarShip) or StarShip Online (the Cloud platform) and the Subscription Management System.

Logging in to StarShip Web

StarShip Web can be launched from the StarShip Web program group in the Windows menu, or the desktop shortcut (if installed).

This will open the StarShip Login page. If this is your first time logging in, enter your username and password. The User ID and Password field lengths are restricted to 20 characters.

A Note About Locations

For users with multiple login Locations, select your Location from the drop-down list. Locations are defined by your registration key.

Click the red arrow to log in.

How do I log out?

Once you log in, you remain logged-in until you select “Log out” from the User menu. If you close the browser window without logging out, the occupied User seat will terminate when the scheduled StarShip Server task to clean up idle connections runs. Note: If you open StarShip in a new window in the same browser before this task runs, you will still be logged in and can continue working.

Connections Cleanup

The frequency of cleaning up connections is determined by the Administrator in Server Manager under Tools > Options > General > Clean Up.

Logging in to StarShip Online

The Subscription Management System (SMS) and StarShip Online use the Single Sign-on authentication process. As a result, when you navigate to either application and log in, you will be logged into both applications.

Log in from the SMS

Navigate to the SMS and log in. The URL for your SMS dashboard login follows this formula: “https://companycode.subscription.starship.online/login”. V-Technologies sends you the company code in the StarShip welcome email. Check the “Keep me signed in” check box to stay signed in to the SMS and StarShip Online until you manually log out. You will be logged in for 1 year. See also: Logging Out.

From the SMS, you can click Ship to launch StarShip Online in another tab. You will be logged in to the first available Location.

Log in from StarShip Online

Navigate to StarShip Online and log in. The URL for your StarShip Online login follows this formula: “https://companycode.starship.online”. V-Technologies sends you the company code in the StarShip welcome email.

A Note About Locations

For users with multiple login Locations, select your Location from the drop-down list. Locations are defined in the Subscription Management System (SMS) under the Locations menu item.

Click the menu item with your User Name and select Subscription Management to launch the SMS in another tab.

Logging out

When you log in from the SMS and check the “Keep me signed in” check box, you’ll be logged in for 1 year until you until you select “Log out” from the User menu. If you do not check the “Keep me signed in” check box, you will be logged in while you are using the SMS or StarShip Online. You will be logged out after 20 minutes of inactivity or when you manually log out.

When you log in from StarShip Online, you will be logged in for 1 year for both StarShip Online and the SMS until you select “Log out” from the User menu.

Multiple Locations Notes

Any StarShip setup you perform needs to be completed for each login location. Many StarShip settings and options are saved dynamically by location as well.

Troubleshooting Login

You may receive an error when logging into StarShip. A warning can display when the StarShip service is not running or if the Server needs to download registration updates. Contact your Administrator for help, or if you have Administrator privileges, open the StarShip Server Manager and go to Tools > Check for data/registration updates or start the service.

If the StarShip Server is not found on the machine specified in setup, you can run the StarShip Web installer and select to Update your installation. During the installation, you can specify the correct StarShip Server location. For more information on the StarShip Web installer, see StarShip Web Installation.
