Developer Interface Shipping Overview

The shipping process for users of the Developer Interface differs depending on the StarShip mode that is defined for your integrated application. StarShip can either initiate the shipment or the shipment can be launched directly from your application. StarShip allows users of the Developer Interface to “pull” shipment data from the source interface into StarShip and process the shipment. Users can also use the “push” method of initiating shipments from within your source interface and processing them in StarShip, using an integrated StarShip button (or other launching method, such as a link).

Initiated from StarShip (“Pull”)

In StarShip Rate/Ship, the user enters a document number to ship against, which “pulls” the document into StarShip. You can automate StarShip to pack line items automatically based on learned packaging scenarios, packing preferences, and other settings configured in StarShip. The shipment is saved in StarShip and shipment and package details are written back to the source interface.

More about how initiate a shipment from StarShip

Initiated from your source interface (“Push”)

This method is known as the “Push” interface because it pushes shipments from your source interface data entry screens to StarShip’s Ship screen. From the source interface, a user creates and saves a shipment. The user can pack items in the source interface or leave items loose to let StarShip packing preferences drive shipment packing. The integrated StarShip button launches StarShip and allows the user to process and save the shipment. Shipment and package details are written back to the source and display on the source interface entry screen.
